A call for holiday essays for 2013 collection

image

In 1997, Hub City Writers Project published thirty-two Spartanburg writers and their seasonal stories in Hub City Christmas, which has been a favorite in the area for many years.

Hub City is returning to the holiday theme for a second volume, tentatively titled Hub City Christmas Volume 2, and we're seeking essay submissions from Spartanburg writers. Essays can be on Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, snow, events, people, traditions, or nostalgia. They can be funny or touching. Any way you can tell a story that preserves a holiday memory in Spartanburg.

The book will be edited by John Cribb and Kari Jackson.

Essays need to be in the first person and set in Spartanburg during the holidays. They should be 1,000-1,200 words. Each submission must be typed with letter-quality printing in a standard 12-point typeface and should include a cover page with author’s name, address, phone number and email address. Please email your submissions and any questions to co-editor Kari Jackson at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Please type “Holiday Book” in the subject line of your email. Decisions will not be made on the essays until Spring 2013.

Authors whose work is selected will receive both a hardback and a paperback edition of the book. Previously published work will be considered as long as the author holds the copyright.

Authors with essays in the first Hub City Christmas collection are not eligible for publication in this second volume.

Submissions accepted February 1, 2012 to February 1, 2013.
